Brief: To convert an existing double garage fronting a laneway and street into a new office for administration staff of the Bondi Youth Accomodation, a not-for-profit that provides crisis accommodation for local youth.

Challenges: Working with a decrepit and leaking garage on an exposed corner site and a modest budget, to create a tranquil and light filled work environment, crucial for a high stress job.

Solutions: A small insertion into the existing brick boundary walls to minimise visual impact to surrounding neighbours, while creating opportunities to open to the north for light, ventilation and calming canopy views. A low skillion roof raising to the street responds to neighbour concerns for overshadowing and overlooking.

Highlights: Working with a great client on an important and crucial piece of infrastructure for the delivery of crisis housing to local youth. The addition is small but hardworking, adding huge capacity for the client while quietly sitting within its context.
