Brief: Extending a heritage home to create a contemporary living space and additional bedrooms while respecting the character of the existing house.

Challenges: Working with heritage restrictions to ensure that the original home is not dominated by the new works, whilst creating a new extension which responds to the site, the environment and the needs of the client.

Solutions: Designing a roof form which compliments the scale and geometry of the original house and dropping the rear floor level to allow for high ceilings in the living area and bedrooms above.

Highlights: Working sympathetically with the character filled house and exploring some new geometries that emerge from the original roof form.
