In Progress: Creation of a new family home including lofty and light double height living spaces opening seamlessly onto outdoor spaces and Curl Curl views. A neutral pallet of materials provide a serene and effortless living environment for the parents and their young children. A link bridge connecting the two main wings of the house provide a careful balance between connection and separation of master and kids bedrooms. These two sleeping wings are connected by a double height kitchen and dining space, which together act to harbour a central courtyard as the heart of the home. The brief also called for operability and privacy, provided by a second ‘skin’; a system of fibre cement perforated bi-folding screens. The screens are in a constant state of movement in response to the position of the sun, the season or coastal conditions. The home wraps itself around a central courtyard and swimming pool, making a connection with the outdoors, water and play core to everyday life.
