Brief: To breath new life into a 1950’s Northern Beaches classic that has undergone a number of ill conceived renovations, and open up the living spaces to create a generous and light home for a growing young family of 5.
Challenges: Working to a tight budget it was decided to retain as much of the original house structure as possible. This posed the challenge of balancing the need for additional bedrooms and open plan living, with the desire to retain the modest character of the original house.
Solutions: A lofty gable roof to the master bedroom at the front sharpens the front elevation, and a long low lying horizontal and large sliding doors connect internal living spaces with the rear garden.
Highlights: Working with great clients that were open to exploring playful and inventive ways to transform their house whilst retaining its original character.
