Lake House Culburra
Framing the views
Interiors, Landscape, Residential
The house consists of two primary pavilions, connected by a single-story link that facilitates flow between spaces and articulation of the separate volumes. These pavilions are offset in the plan to optimize access to natural light, airflow, and views of the gardens and bushland on both sides. A central courtyard is designed as an outdoor living area, offering a space for the family to gather. The landscape plan includes low water-use native plants to support local birdlife and integrate the house with its environment.
The house is clad in bushfire-resistant hardwood shiplap and elevated above the ground in response to the site’s flood risk. The undercroft serves as an all-weather area for games and recreation, maintaining a direct connection with the lake and local birdlife—a versatile space for both children and adults.
